Analysis of "secondary teachers" magazine

Here is an example of a front page for a teaching magazine. The magazine is targeted at teachers in the secondary school sector. I am going to deconstruct the text to work out the different conventions and codes. I am going to discuss certain aspects of the magazine and say why they have been introduced into the front cover.

Central to mise en scene in this magazine is a picture of the two young students. The picture Is dominant and covers the majority of the page. The picture shows that all people from different ethnic backgrounds can be taught. It shows us that every student has an equal opportunity to receive education and do well in life. The students also appear to be happy and enjoying their experience. This tells teachers that teaching is enjoyable and very rewarding.

As well as these factors we can discuss the positioning of the camera. We can see that the camera is quite far away from the students. This is to show us both the students emotions and actions. If the shot was taken as a close then we would only see the two student’s emotions and not how they are sat or what they are doing. The shot shows us the boys learning with through books and each other. The books are marked Arsenal to show that they teach the kids. Another thing we noticed is how relaxed the students are. They seem to be enjoying learning which is not often seen.

Another thing that can be noticed is the different contrast between colours. We can see that the two students have dark uniforms of which contract directly with the two red Arsenal shirts behind them. The colours seem to be in blocks, with the title being blue, then the two red shirts, followed by the dark uniforms.
