Analysis of "Secondary teachers" magazine

Here is another example of a secondary school magazine. The front cover is aimed at teachers or people who are training to become teachers. I am going to deconstruct the text and explain why certain aspects have been introduced.

The first thing that grabs the attention of the audience is the colour scheme. The magazine is covered in white and blue. The white is to signify purity and innocence. We associate the colour white with being good and having a clean plate. Another colour that is prominent in this magazine is the blue. The masthead is in a blue which represents freedom, sense of space and time, and also being fresh. The colour of the masthead matches the uniform that the young girl is wearing. This shows us that the girl has freedom to achieve with the help of secondary schools and teachers. It shows us that the girl has an open opportunity to achieve anything is her life. The blue also appears in the sub-heading, which once again represents freedom and purity.

The camera is in a medium close up to show us both the girls expressions and what she is wearing which is important to the picture. The girl is clearly happy and enjoying learning in secondary school. This shows teachers that students are willing and happy to learn. The girls body language is also appropriate. She is stood with her arms folding which seems to show that she is pleased with what she is achieving and confident in her ability. The student appears satisfied with were she is going and her career path. Another thing we can see from the girl picture is the curly hair. Curly hair signifies innocence again and purity. This seems to be a theme of the front cover. The uniform tells us that for working hard in school and achieving well everyone can find a career that suits them. The girl is half dressed in a nurses uniform which is seen as a good, respectable job. The tie placed between the two uniforms shows a contrast between dark and light.

Analysis of "secondary teachers" magazine

Here is an example of a front page for a teaching magazine. The magazine is targeted at teachers in the secondary school sector. I am going to deconstruct the text to work out the different conventions and codes. I am going to discuss certain aspects of the magazine and say why they have been introduced into the front cover.

Central to mise en scene in this magazine is a picture of the two young students. The picture Is dominant and covers the majority of the page. The picture shows that all people from different ethnic backgrounds can be taught. It shows us that every student has an equal opportunity to receive education and do well in life. The students also appear to be happy and enjoying their experience. This tells teachers that teaching is enjoyable and very rewarding.

As well as these factors we can discuss the positioning of the camera. We can see that the camera is quite far away from the students. This is to show us both the students emotions and actions. If the shot was taken as a close then we would only see the two student’s emotions and not how they are sat or what they are doing. The shot shows us the boys learning with through books and each other. The books are marked Arsenal to show that they teach the kids. Another thing we noticed is how relaxed the students are. They seem to be enjoying learning which is not often seen.

Another thing that can be noticed is the different contrast between colours. We can see that the two students have dark uniforms of which contract directly with the two red Arsenal shirts behind them. The colours seem to be in blocks, with the title being blue, then the two red shirts, followed by the dark uniforms.

Key concepts

For my preliminary task for my AS media atudies i have been asked to produce the front cover of a new college magazine. There are five key concepts that have to be looked into when producing a media product, these are shown throught the acronym LIIAR

Language- Technical and theoretical terms. Suggests specific terminology. This is everything that is included in the magazine, such as photographs, headline, texts etc.

Institution- Production of media texts e.g BBC or The Sun. For example when producing the magazine wyke will becom the institution.

Ideology- This is a shared system of beliefs and values. It's ideology is represented in the context.

Audience- The consumers of the media text. These can be mass, a large audience. Or Niche, a small specialised audience. The target audience for my magazine will be Wyke College.

Representation- Socail groups are represented by the media. The media reflects society.
